    Chemical Resistance Chart

We have created this Chemical Resistance Chart for PVC, Nylon, low- and medium-density Polyethene, and Polyurethane across a wide range of chemicals to help you.

    ✔Satisfactory
■To assess the material's suitability for use given potential attack or absorption, testing may be required.
✖Unsatisfactory: The samples tested exhibited issues such as decomposition, solution, swelling, loss of ductility, and other similar problems, rendering them unusable.

To provide guidance, PVC's resistance to certain chemicals has been predicted from its resistance to others with similar compositions. It is safe to assume that chemical resistance decreases as the temperature and reagent concentration increase. Conversely, it increases as they subside.

You cannot make valid assumptions about chemical resistance. However, if the temperature and concentration change in compensating directions, it may mitigate the impact on chemical resistance. The rating ‘some attack or absorption’ (symbol - ■) should not be assumed to apply at conditions different from those shown.

    *Hydrolysis of Polyurethane:

Chemical resistance of polyurethane hoses and composite hoses sleeved with polyurethane. Because of its hydrolytic effect, you should not continuously use polyurethane in contact with water or water-containing solutions above 40°C. Hydrolysis can also occur with extended exposure to:

    • High humidity at elevated temperatures,
    • Acid and alkali solutions,
    • Aerated water,
    • Fungi and bacteria.

Some substances with a satisfactory rating may cause swelling, but it is usually minimal. One should refrain from assuming that this indicates deterioration of the polyurethane.
